The wait was over for thousands of anxious people with the release of 2015’s GCSE results.

Putney High School 87.3 per cent of all entries at Putney High School achieved A or A* grades, which was a 0.8 per cent increase on last year. 

Their overall A* to C pass rate was 99.7 per cent; a fraction less than the 100 per cent pass rate last year.

Some 58 per cent of girls secured at least 10 A* or A grades, with ten girls achieving 10 A* grades. Twenty girls secured nine or more A* grades.

One Putney student managed to juggle both GCSEs and a budding modeling career. Olivia Mason Pearson sat her GCSE exams just two months after making her catwalk debut at Paris Fashion Week, modelling for Balenciaga under creative director Alexander Wang.

She said: "I had to be organised to ensure I covered all of my GCSE class work and revision but it was great to be part of such a high profile show for an iconic brand."

Putney was also seeing double at the celebrations as no less than three sets of twins collected their results – Phoebe and Rosanna Codrington, Eleanor and Lydia Tsoukkas and Clara and Martha Finn. Clara was also one of nine Putney students to achieve all A* grades.

All 20 of the Chinese Mandarin entries achieved an A* grade. Other GCSE language results were equally as impressive with with 90 per cent A* or A grades for French and German, and 87 per cent for Spanish.

In science, 90 per cent of biology and chemistry entries were at A* or A grade while for physics, the figure was 86 per cent. In maths, more than 90 per cent of entries achieved A* or A grade.

Acting headteacher Suzie Longstaff said: "I am delighted for our students. 

"These strong results reflect the sheer depth of ability and breadth of interest across the full range of subjects from maths and sciences to languages, humanities and the creative subjects."

At Streatham & Clapham High School pupils also achieved excellent GCSE results this year, with a just under 10 per cent rise in the number of A* grades achieved compared to last year. More A* grades were achieved than ever before in the school’s history. 

72 per cent of all grades were either A* or A. The school also sustained its recent record of a 100 per cent A* to C grade at GCSE.

Ginger Frame, Holly Jackson and Alexandra Zmuda all achieved 10 A * grades. One third of the cohort achieved nine or more grades at A* to A.

The Headmaster, Dr Millan Sachania, said: "I am delighted by the public examination results achieved by SCHS pupils this year. This is a clear testimony to their hard work, dedication and ambition, and I congratulate them, and their teachers, on this achievement."

At the Al Risalah School in Tooting students achieved 80 per cent A* to C, based on students being awarded at least five GCSEs including maths, science and English.

Headmaster Suhayl Lee said: "Our students have produced excellent results this year, 80 per cent were awarded five GCSEs, including maths, English and science at grade A* to C and our Ebacc results have risen from 47 per cent to 67 per cent in just one year. 

"Well done to the students and my colleagues for all their hard work. 

"We wish our students every success in all their future endeavours."

The Headmaster commended Syed Amir Hussaini who was awarded three A*s, five As and a B.

Thames Christian College pupils received its highest number of A* and A GCSE grades ever with 50 per cent of grades A* or A and 23 per cent A*.

91 per cent of grades attained were A* to C and 85 per cent of pupils gained 5 A* to C including maths and English.

"At Thames our size enables each pupil to be known as an individual and receive the attention they need to identify their strengths, develop new skills and grow in confidence. 
"This confidence leads to success as pupils enthusiastically make the most of their academic studies and take advantage of the wide variety of extra-curricular opportunities on offer."

There were several individual high-performers with three pupils achieving seven A*s and two As. Six others achieved at least eight A* or A grades.
