Charities across south London and north Surrey have just over a month left to apply for a one-off grant from The Gannett Foundation, part of Gannett Co parent company to Newsquest Media Group, publishers of this newspaper.

Last year three organisations were celebrating after being picked to receive more than £20,000.

Demelza Hospice, Centrepoint in Lewisham and The London Playing Fields Foundation (LPFF) picked up their cheques just before Christmas 2014.

The hospice, in Eltham, was awarded with a £9,353 cheque for a 'magic carpet', Centrepoint £9,750 for their Move Through project and LPFF £2,000 for mini-soccer goals at the London Marathon Sports Ground in Shooters Hill Road, Greenwich.

Gannett Foundation grants are typically under £10,000 though this figure and higher can be secured for larger scale projects.

The aim is to support projects which take a creative approach to fundamental issues such as education and neighbourhood improvements, economic development, youth development, local problem-solving, assistance to disadvantaged or disabled people, environmental conservation and cultural enrichment.

The trustees will favour projects that demonstrate good planning, oversight and financial responsibility.

Copies of the charity’s most recent financial accounts are required. In addition, any supporting materials and further details concerning the overall aims of the charity should be included with each submission.

Application forms can be downloaded here and returned to sroach@london.newsquest.co.uk before the deadline of 5pm Friday October 16.
