Battersea Dogs and Cats Home has won a £32,000 grant after pet owners and celebrities rallied behind a competition.
Microsoft launched the Upgrade Your World campaign to give five charities a grant of $50,000 (£32,000).
Thousands of the charity’s supporters, including Battersea ambassador David Gandy, Little Mix singer Leigh Anne Pinnock, Saturdays singer Mollie King shared photos of their pets on Twitter, and the home was awarded one of the grants.
The grant will fund the care of animals like Slush, a one-year-old Siberian Husky looking for a new home after his owner was unable to care for him.
Battersea takes in an average of 13 dogs and nine cats every day and receives up to 1,000 calls a month from dog owners seeking its help.

Hugh Milward, director of corporate affairs at Microsoft, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed with the response to the campaign here in the UK, and are proud to have launched an initiative that celebrates people and organisations who do great things.
“The charity does vital work helping to support the most vulnerable dogs and cats in society, and we’re pleased our donation will enable it to continue to do so.”
