A schoolboy has been stabbed at Southfields Academy.

Police said they were called to the school at 3.10pm following reports of a stabbing in the lobby.

A 15-year-old boy suffered a stab wound to the leg. 

A spokesman from Met Police said: "London Ambulance attended and the male was treated - his injury is not serious.

"Three people have been arrested on suspicion of GBH and remain in custody."

The secondary school, in Merton Road, was not available for comment this afternoon but a receptionist said the principal - understood to be Jacqueline Valin - would call back with a statement.

A statement was later run on the website shortly before 5.20pm saying: 

"As some of you may be aware already an incident occurred outside the school earlier today.  The student involved is in a stable condition.

"If you or your child have any information about this incident then please telephone 101 and ask for Wandsworth CID.

"Jackie Valin, Principal  & Wanda Golinska, Headteacher"

A spokesman for the London Ambulance service said: "We were called at 3:14pm to Merton Road to reports of a stabbing.

"We sent an ambulance crew to the scene.

"We treated a patient at the scene and took them as a priority to a hospital in South London."

The academy is run by Aspire.
