Stars including Little Mix's Leigh-Anne Pinnock and television host Sue Barker joined the pooches of Battersea Dogs and Cats home at a gala charity event on Thursday evening.

Celebrities cuddleed the home's animals on the 'doggie guard of honour' before enjoying a night of entertainment with music from Bryan Ferry at the seventh annual Collars and Coats ball, held at Battersea Evolution.

Guests also bid in an auction for money-can't-buy prizes.

The guests included Battersea ambassador Dame Jacqueline Wilson, businesswoman Hilary Devey, Strictly Come Dancing's Craig Revel-Horwood, hairdresser Nicky Clarke, Little Mix’s Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and television doctor Dr Christian Jessen.

Claire Horton, Battersea’s chief executive said: "The Collars and Coats Gala Ball was a truly unique event, celebrating our animals and raising money to care for the 9,000 dogs and cats that come through our gates, abandoned and terrified each year. Once again, we’re thrilled that so many supporters and friends of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home gave so generously of their time to make the event so successful."

Dame Jacqueline Wilson said: "I am so proud to be an ambassador for Battersea.

"It is a lovely charity where every penny is accounted for and you can see for yourself the wonderful work they do."

Last year the home helped 9,000 dogs and cats at a cost of £10m, with no government funding.
