Leisure centres in Wandsworth have undergone a multi-million pound redevelopment, giving borough residents access to poolside saunas, dance studios and upgraded weights rooms.

Balham, Latchmere, Putney, Tooting and Wandle were the five leisure centres Wandsworth Council and Places for People Pleasure decided to fund for refurbishment, at a cost of £3.5m.

The renovation began with Balham, to celebrate their 100th birthday last year, with the new improvements seeing an increase of visits from the public.

Contract marketing manager for Wandsworth Emma Martlow said: "These redevelopments continue to demonstrate our commitment to ensuring that local communities have access to centres where they are able to engage in a healthier lifestyle through physical activity."

The Balham leisure centre benefited from an improved reception area, a bigger dance studio, new poolside sauna and steam rooms, full refurbishment of the wet changing village plus improvements to the weights room and the mens and womens changing rooms.

In Battersea, the Latchmere centre got a new changing room, and gym goers now gain access with a fingerprint entry system.

Putney's leisure centre features a new sauna and in Tooting, there were improvements to the health suite and the fitness room and spin studio.

Wandle recreation centre improvements have been focused on the changing rooms, with an additional disabled room now on site.
