A planned tube station at Nine Elms could be developed to include more than 350 homes as well as office and retail space.

A new station to serve the Battersea power station development, with connections to the northern line, was given approval in November 2014, with work expected to be complete by 2020.

In addition, Transport for London has drawn up plans for 362 homes, with 25 per cent of them affordable, 2,318 m sq of office space, 550 m sq of retail space, to raise money to support the extension of the Northern line.

It is one of three sets of plans, and TfL will also seek to build 127 homes at Northwood and 119 at Parsons Green.

Graeme Craig, director of commercial development at TfL, said: "The three planning applications we have submitted are the first step in our ambitious programme of development, which will create much needed homes, jobs, offices and retail space across London.

"We are working closely with local communities and boroughs to shape these proposals so that they meet local aspirations and deliver real local improvements.

"The three sites demonstrate the varied nature of our landholdings, and the potential they have to create economic growth across London whilst providing vital revenues to invest in running and modernising the transport network."

Nine Elms would also benefit from a new public square, play space, pedestrian and cycle connections, cycle parking, and disabled car parking.

The plans follow the announcement by TfL last month to release more than 300 acres of land for housing development and have been submitted to Lambeth council for approval.
