2tone legends The Selecter filled the Clapham Grand with scintillating ska and fans dressed in the sharpest threads in town on Friday night.

Thirty-five years may have passed since Pauline Black’s band, made famous by hit On My Radio, burst onto the scene but some things will always stay the same.

The Selecter remain at the forefront of musical relevance and here are just six reasons why.

EARLIER THIS MONTH: Legendary rude girl Pauline Black calls for 2tone reunion gig ahead of The Selecter's Clapham date

1. Pauline Black is just as stylish as she was at the height of the band’s 1980s fame. Pork pie hats, sharp suits and DMs will never go out of fashion.

2. The back catalogue is outrageously good. Everyone knows On My Radio but Missing Words, Danger and Too Much Pressure are equally as foot-stomping.

3. But it’s not just the classic material – their latest album, Subculture, is even better live than in the studio. It’s no wonder it received such rave reviews.

4. Pauline Black might have been the most chic rude girl in the house but The Selecter’s loyal fans ran her pretty close. Rude boys and rude girls alike did themselves proud.

5. On My Radio sounds so much better in a sweaty nightclub than on a Virgin Media advert.

6. Pauline Black told the Wandsworth Guardian earlier this month that she wants to see a mini 2tone tour in the near future. With The Specials, The Beat and Rhoda Dakar still on the scene, here’s hoping!
