Junior doctors at St George's in Tooting will not strike for 24 hours from Tuesday morning, following a break through in talks.

The strike had been planned to begin at 8am with hundreds of appointments rescheduled and patients warned not to come in to the hospital for planned treatments.

St George's revealed that they had planned to cover treatment for life-threatening conditions, and the accident and emergency department.

The British Medical Association agreed to suspend the strike on Monday evening. They also agreed to suspend two further planned walkouts later this month.

The details of the agreement will be formalised in the coming weeks and the BMA has until January 13 to consider strike action.
