The stadium itself, which will begin as an 11,000 seater but eventually have a capacity of 20,000, was designed by Wilson Owens.

Around the stadium, Galliard Homes will build 602 apartments, six squash courts, a dance/fitness studio and gymnasium and a 13,700 square foot retail outlet.

Wandsworth Times:

A new public piazza will also be built, as well as a pedestrian boulevard, a ground level parking complex, courtyards and green spaces.

Apartments will be available with one, two or three bedrooms, or studio, as well as family maisonettes with private gardens.

Wandsworth Times:

Demolition of the greyhound stadium currently on Plough Lane will begin next year. The new stadium complex is expected to take three years to complete.

Wandsworth Times:

Chief Executive of AFC Wimbledon, Erik Samuelson, said: "We are all absolutely delighted.

"This is our home and we are delighted that we have been granted planning approval to return to Wimbledon."
