Wandsworth had the second highest rate of accidental alcohol-related fires in the last year, official figures revealed.

According to the London Fire Brigade, there have been 20 accidental fires related to alcohol consumption in 2015, in line with Lambeth and second only to Southwark, where 21 were recorded.

Wandsworth is also in the top 10 for incidents in the last five years, with 98 accidental alcohol related fires since 2010.

The LFB said the most common causes of alcohol related fires include cigarettes not being put out properly and candles or cooking left unattended after people have fallen asleep.

London Fire Brigade director of operations, Dave Brown said: "When people are under the influence of alcohol they are more likely to take risks, their responses become slower and they can fall asleep easily, which can be a dangerous combination if a fire starts."
