The public meeting will also be attended by councillors and the Putney Society as they quiz train chiefs about the revamp.

Putney Society chairman, Judith Chegwidden branded the meeting as "another good PR stunt" where they will "no doubt deliver a timescale they can not keep"

She said: "No new ticket office, no retail units, and appalling façade - when will they finally complete work at Putney Station?"

The station, which is used by an estimated 11 million commuters each year, will introduce a second entrance in Oxford Road to help with the overcrowding and cut the interchange between tube and mainline trains.

Councillor Jonathan Cook said: "Senior managers at Network Rail and South West Trains are dragging their heels and have not committed to any kind of solid timetable for this important project, despite it having been on the table for a number of years."

The meeting will be held at the station ticket hall between 3pm and 7pm.
