Objections to the planning application that would allow Formula E's track to be built in Battersea Park have been flooding in since it was lodged at the end of December.

Of the 271 responses filed to the council, as of Tuesday, 263 are objections, while eight support the event.

December 31: Formula E promise quieter 2016 event but track could be in Battersea park for one month

December 16: Formula E confirmed for 2016 and 2017 despite final protest push

November 25: Formula E will return to Battersea Park for two years despite protests at Wandsworth council gates

One resident wrote to say he believed its return was against the "better judgement" of the council.

Margaret Sawyer said: "I felt completely powerless in the sight of such turbulence, as though my life had been taken over by an anonymous authority which was intent on taking away one of the few beautiful things there are in my area.

"I had to spend time and money getting away for days at a time last year and I can see no alternative this year."

Wandsworth Times:

A response from the Battersea Park Action Group stated that the application goes against Wandsworth Council policy on open spaces.

It states: "By its very operation Formula E acts in direct conflict with this policy [open spaces] and excludes the public from 97% of the park rather than encouraging access to all.

"The Design and Access statement refers to representatives of Battersea Park being heavily involved with the pre-submission process.

"This is simply untrue unless this refers to council officers and then they are not members of the local community."

Application supporter Ian McAllistar said: "I support the application of Formula E and it's stringent defence by the council.

"Yes, grass and flowers have been dug up, but that doesn't really matter as it's great to see motorsport in a central London location.

"Yes, it's not a green event, but who in their right mind would claim that it is?

If approved two races would be held over the weekend of July 2 and 3.

Set-up would begin on June 16 with dismantling and reinstatement to be completed by July 12.

Comments can be made until January 28.
