Primary school children who raised hundreds of pounds for a specialist hospital neo-natal unit got to see where their money will be spent.

Children from Abbey Primary School in Morden raised £487 for the neo-natal unit at St George’s Hospital in Tooting, writes Freddie Miller.

Wandsworth Times:

A group of four youngsters visited the hospital on Tuesday, January 19 to meet staff at the First Touch baby unit, above.

The money will go towards a neopuff machine, a type of infant resuscitator there.

Parent Sally Felipe, who accompanied the pupils to the hospital, said: “The children asked lots of questions and got the benefit of seeing where the money goes. They got to see babies in incubators and how small they are, my son thought it was a fantastic experience.

“The school fundraises a few times a year, and it’s always charities which have touched families. Since Christmas they have done another one for children with liver disease – it’s all for a really good cause.”

Pupils at the Glastonbury Road primary school raised the money at a series of Christmas concerts, as students with charity boxes collected donations over a period of two weeks.
