"The largest injection in recent memory" into council housing has been approved, meaning tenants can expect £90m worth of improvement works over the next three years.

Council leader Ravi Govindia said he was "delighted" to allocate the money to the council's housing stock.

He said: "The council is driving forward with its vision to deliver 300 low cost homes hover the next three to five years as part of its Wandsworth Housing Offer with £19m being spent on council led development.

"At Stag Lane on the Putney Vale estate, there will be a delivery of supported housing scene for our residents with physical and learning disabilities.

"The council's capital programme has also made provision to support a Do It Yourself shared ownership scheme aimed at making homeownership a possible goal for more of our residents and the council is only local borough seeking to promote resident self build."

More than £12m will be spent in 2016/17 and in 2017/18 on major refurbishment of estates, including window renewal in the Aboyne estate in Earlsfield, and parts of the Alton estate in Roehampton.

Obsolete boilers will be replaced across Wandsworth, Tooting, Balham and Queenstown.

More than £1.5m has been allocated in three years up to 2018 for adaptations for the disabled.

Councillor Paul Ellis, cabinet member for housing said the council would deliver these alongside a one per cent decrease in rent for council tenants, but that residents would not see a difference in services provided.

Coun Ellis said: "It will reduce our revenue in housing income but savings are being made.

"We will continue to provide good services."
