Mystery surrounds the appearance of hundreds of black shavings that found their way into a Battersea man's flat overnight.

Trevor Kelly, a filmmaker, fell asleep while watching a football match in his flat on Sunday afternoon at the end of January, having been working since Saturday morning.

He said: "When I woke up at 2am, my living room where I had fallen asleep and my kitchen was covered in black shaving files.

"I thought this was strange, and I touched them, they smeared."

Mr Kelly took pictures and videos of the shavings in all the rooms of his flat, which is close to the Battersea Power Station development, and called the council to help, but claims they could not do anything. Work did take place at the power station on Sunday with special permission, but with less activity than a normal day.

Battersea Power Station and Wandsworth Council were unable to offer formal statements, but have stated it is unlikely that the work carried out and the prevailing winds could have affected Mr Kelly's flat.
