A Battersea man has been handed a suspended sentence after committing benefit fraud.

David Bartlett, of Coppock Close, faced charges of failing to disclose £16,000 in savings, when he was claiming employment support allowance.

He was also charged with claiming housing support and council tax benefit when he had more than £18,000 in savings.

The 50-year-old appeared at Kingston Crown Court on February 3 where he was given a 12 month sentence suspended for two years.

He was also ordered to complete 80 hours unpaid work and told to pay £535 in costs and a £100 victim surcharge.
