An exhibition of ‘intriguing and unusual’ underwater drawings has started this week.

Students from Epping Forest College made the drawings by diving into a swimming pool and drawing on weighted down waterproof paper for as long as they could stay underwater.

The artwork, which was created at Waltham Abbey swimming pool in October last year, is being shown at the college in Borders Lane, Loughton alongside photos and films of the process.

Alex Hugo, from the arts department at Epping Forest District Council, said: “It has been a great success so far.

“We had 30 to 35 people arrive for the preview because it’s such an interesting project and people are finding it really intriguing, wondering what it is all about as it is quite unusual.

“The students at Epping Forest College have really taken the lead by curating the work, taking and editing the photos and videos so it’s a big exhibition, and it is very exciting.”

The underwater experiment was initially held as part of the Big Draw, the world’s biggest drawing festival.

The exhibition also features works by Davenant Foundation School pupils and runs until March 31 between 10am and 6pm at Epping Forest College.
