The man who murdered Southfields teenager Cara Marie Burke eight years ago has died in prison. 

Mohammed d'Ali Carvalho dos Santos was serving a 21 year sentence for killing 17-year-old Miss Burke in 2008.

According to Brazilian press, he was found by officers on Thursday morning at 9am in his cell in Penitentiary Odenir Guimarães (POG), the Prison Complex Aparecida de Goiania. 

An investigation has begun into the circumstances of Santos' death. 

Miss Burke was murdered by Santos on July 30, 2008.

She had travelled to Brazil earlier in the year but ended their relationship after learning of his involvement in drugs. 

Santos killed the teenager when she threatened to tell police and his family. 

She died from a single stab wound, but her body was brutally dismembered and hidden in different locations including a suitcase.
