A Bexleyheath grandma has been left petrified after losing £20,000 worth of Indian gold during a burglary, in which her family believes she was targeted.

Parmjit Kaur's home in Long Lane was turned over on Saturday evening, as the 57-year-old popped out to see her daughter.

Despite only having an hour to steal the jewellery, her family claim thieves managed to take the lot – and left very little evidence in the "professional" job.

The victim's daughter Nav Kaur, 38, told News Shopper: "My mum's petrified.

"She's scared to be alone in the house. She's leaving the lights on all night.

"I think she feels she has been robbed of her own liberty.

"We are devastated by it. We are going through a distressing time at the moment. We are in bits.

"It's really scary. I fear they will break into my house at night."

The Danson Road resident, who stored her own precious jewellery at her mum's, added: "They have obviously been keeping an eye on the house and the movements of the family.

"We thought my mum's was a safe place. We tried to keep it in a safety deposit box, but there weren't any available.

"Unfortunately they have not left any fingerprints. All she found was boot marks.

"I think it was planned, professional.

"They did not touch the laptop or the TV, they came purely for the gold and they have managed to find every piece. I think we have been targeted."

The mum-of-two has been warning her neighbours after the break-in, and hopes those responsible are caught.

She added: "We can't let these people get away with it. I think these scum need to be caught.

"We always used to hear things, but we never thought it would happen to us.

"We are just glad my mum was not in there, or my dad.

"We do not see hope of the gold being found, but just hope they are caught.”

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a burglary and established that a quantity of gold jewellery had been stolen.

"No arrests have been made and enquires continue."

Police are appealing for witnesses. Anyone with information can call police on 020 8284 9127 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
