More than 60 people attended a public meeting held by Labour councillors and parents on the future of the Alton Activity Centre in Roehampton.

Wandsworth Times:

Zahra Ali, a mum whose children have used the centre for many years, joined councillors Jeremy Ambache and Leonie Cooper at the Dara Club on Monday, March 21.

From next week, services will be run by Wandsworth Council in partnership with organisations as charity Spurgeon’s contract ends. Parents have been battling the council for months over the matter.

Cllr Cooper said: "The parents spoke well, rejecting the half-baked services proposed by the council. It is disgraceful there has been no consultation with parents.

"The council has form on this – changing or reducing services without consulting people properly. In the light of the recent damning Ofsted, it is shocking the council is leaving children in the lurch once again."

In the Easter holiday’s second half, the centre will open 1pm to 6pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Term times, 3pm to 6pm on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Wandsworth Council has not announced its full programme of events for the centre.
