He said: “It’s very sad. We don’t know much about it at all at the moment. Our thoughts are obviously with her family.

“Police have told us that they aren’t treating it as a suspicious incident, but any incident of this nature is obviously terribly sad for our staff and people visiting the common.

“It’s very difficult.”

Manager of the nearby Fox and Grapes pub, Liam Carlisle, said he saw police, ambulances and fire engines heading towards Camp Road on Saturday lunchtime.

He said: “No one has come into us. We haven’t actually had any visit from the police to tell us what happened.

Wandsworth Times:

“We have got a retirement home next to us, so we assumed it might have been an accident to do with something there.

“Myself and my colleague were staring out of the window while the emergency services were going by. It’s not the normal thing you would see around here.”
