Tooting voters will go back to the polls twice more next month, as the by-election following Sadiq Khan's resignation has been confirmed as June 16.

Mr Khan pledged to be a "full-time Mayor" when he won the election on May 6, and quit his Tooting seat on May 9, triggering a by-election.

Voters will have just a week to relax before going back to the polls to vote in the referendum on Britain's membership of the European Union.

The Labour Party closed entries to its selection process on May 10 at 10am, and today, potential candidates are being interviewed by the national executive council.

A shortlist will be announced and a members hustings held on Saturday, May 14, at which point members will vote and a candidate will be announced. 

Labour candidates on the long list include:

Fleur Anderson, who works for WaterAid and is a Councillor for Bedford ward on Wandsworth Council.

Simon Hogg, Councillor for Latchmere ward on Wandsworth Council and the group's deputy leader.

Dr Jayne Lim, an NHS doctor.

Jasvir Singh, a family law barrister.

Christian Wolmer, a former journalist and writer.

Dr Rosena Allin-Khan, a Councillor for Bedford ward on Wandsworth Council.

Emily Brothers, candidate for Sutton and Cheam in 2015.

Martin Smith, national organiser for the GMB union.

Also on the list, for various other parties, are:

George Galloway, Respect.

Bobby "Elmo" Smith, Give me back Elmo party (part of New Fathers 4 Justice).

Dan Watkins, likely Conservative Party candidate.

Howling 'Laud' Hope, leader of the Monster Raving Loony Party.
