Thousands of Furzedowners turned out to the annual Big Day Out to celebrate the community in Tooting.

The event, run by the Furzedown Community Network, put on music, entertainment, food and family fun for the residents of Tooting and beyond, on the Furzedown recreation ground on June 18.

Councillor Candida Jones said: "Furzedown's Big Day Out is the biggest non-council event in the borough and is the perfect expression of the close-knit community we have in Furzedown.

"It is organised by the Furzedown Community Network and involves every part of our wonderful community; schools, churches, youth groups, local businesses and charities, voluntary organisations, chefs, artists, performers and musicians.

"Literally thousands attend. It is the highlight of Furzedown's year. We were honoured to welcome Wendy Speck, the deputy mayoress this year.

"Despite the dull weather, there was a carnival atmosphere until well into the evening.

"I am so proud of what our community achieves together."
