More proud pet owners than ever entered their pooches into the Battersea Park Dog Show over the weekend.

The annual dog show, held on Sunday, June 19, also marked Armed Forces Day this year.

Flora, a four-year-old Akita owned by Robert Stuhldreer, took home the top dog prize as the show's overall winner.

The Mayor of Wandsworth Councillor Richard Field opened the event and judged several novelty classes, which included best rescue dog and best trick.

The show raised £420 for the Friends of Battersea Park.

The council’s leisure and culture spokesman Councillor Jonathan Cook said: "I’m delighted that the sun shone for us yesterday and so many people turned out to take part in what is always a very popular day out.

"This year we also took the opportunity to mark Armed Forces Day, and the dog show did a great job in raising awareness of this national event during which we remember the sacrifices made by our serving men and women."

As well as the dog show, crowds enjoyed a funfair, food and drink and stalls, including a stall from The Royal British Legion to raise awareness of their work.

The event was organised by the Wandsworth Parks and Events Police Service. Battersea Park is managed by Enable Leisure and culture on behalf of Wandsworth Council.

Flags will be flown at Wandsworth Town Hall and Battersea Park until Sunday, June 26, for Armed Forces Day.
