A man who targeted women across Clapham and Brixton Hill in a string of sexual assaults has been jailed for a decade.

Mehdi Midani, 28, attacked eight women across south London, assaulting many of them outside their own homes, between October 22 and October 31, 2015.

April 26: Man convicted of seven sexual assaults committed in space of 10 days in Clapham and Brixton Hill

Midani was convicted at Inner London Crown Court on Tuesday, April 26, after being found guilty of six counts of sexual assault and admitted to a further count of sexual assault.

He was also found guilty of one count of common assault against an eighth female victim.

At the same court on June 23, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Detective Inspector Keith Braithwaite, from the Met's Serious and Complex Case Team, part of the Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command, said: "I hope this sentence today sends a clear message that will deter other offenders and give reassurance to members of the public and victims of our determination to bring to account the perpetrators of such dreadful attacks.

"Midani caused enormous fear and distress to the local community as he carried out his spate of attacks. A public appeal was crucial to our investigation and led to information being provided that quickly led to his arrest.

"We would encourage any other victims of any type of sexual offences to come forward - all allegations will be taken seriously and thoroughly investigated."

Wandsworth Times:

Midani first struck on October 22, putting his hand up a woman's skirt as she walked along Trent Road.

On October 26, he attacked two women, one in Arodene Road and another in Roseberry Road.

On October 28, he targeted four women in four hours, the first in Southwell Road and then Doverfield Road, both in Brixton.

He then attacked a woman in Sudbourne Road and another in Coldharbour Lane.

On October 31, he attacked a woman in Edithna Street.

A public appeal for information led to Midani's arrest on November 2 and he was subsequently charged.

Three other men had been arrested and were all released without further action.
