Tooting High Street will be transformed into a stage for arts and music this weekend.

On Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24 a two-day bonanza of art and culture will take over the High Street, featuring an eclectic mix of local artists and established acts, writes Andrew McDonald.

The event is being hosted by The Streets, a music and performance project which aims to re-establish the communal purpose of high streets by using public spaces to host performances.

Saturday offers a different sound every hour featuring acts such as The Spinettes, House Gospel Choir and London Vocal Project playing alongside local artists beatbox duo Maverick + Malachi, The Great Gustos and World Heartbeat Music Academy.

Music starts at 10am outside Tooting Broadway station, with family singing workshops will also taking place at Tooting Library.

Sunday kicks off with a street party on Cowick Road between 12pm and 4pm, complete with Street Song stage performances from Serious, fantastic street food, salsa dancing, hula hooping, and magic.
