Asian restaurants, a gin bar, and a bingo hall have been revealed to be among The Major of London, Sadiq Khan, favourite spots around Tooting.

The former Tooting MP has written a blog about his six reasons to visit his hometown.

The food-centric list includes recommendations on 'hip hangouts', 'green spaces' and 'hidden gems'.

In the piece, he praises the area's selection of "authentic global cuisine" recommending a range of restaurants from The Little Taperia Spanish Tapas Bar to the Britannia Fish Bar.

By far the biggest section is given to "The best in South Asian restaurants" where he reveals his two favourite restaurants to be Vijaya Krishna in Mitcham Road and Lahore Karahi in Tooting High Street.

At Lahore Karahi he praises the tarkah dhal stating that's it "is nearly as delicious as my mother’s!".

For those looking for a green retreat Mr Khan suggests the "tranquil oasis of greenery and wildlife" of Tooting Bec Common.

Tooting Market is also praised as being "like a summer holiday all year-round with the bright colours and even brighter faces" and readers are advised to pick up a beverage at one of the areas many bars.

Those revelers looking to 'dance their socks off' are told to check out The Tooting Tram And Social or if you're after something a little more chilled out, Mr Khan recommends "the lavishly ornate Art Deco Gala Bingo on Mitcham Road".

Given the weather, it is perhaps fitting that The London Major's final 'reason to visit' is for a dip in England’s largest freshwater swimming pool, Tooting Bec Lido.
