A school in Putney is hoping it has done enough to win a £25,000 grant to fund a renovation of its KS2 playground.

Granard Primary School, in Cortis Road faces competition from 91 other schools and organisations, all of which are pursuing projects that have been nominated for funding by members of the One Family Foundation: the organisation offering the grant, writes Andrew McDonald.

According to the bid, the school's expansion has necessitated a greater number of children using the existing playground space. This has been shown to be insufficient for the age range and needs of the children, given the current landscaping.

Renovation will include new raised bedding provided by the Roehampton Garden Society, the replacement of the wooden pergola and the installation of new weather-proof playground equipment.

Current equipment is worn and rotten, making it unusable in wet weather.

The value in the project is the opportunity to play and learn outside that it will offer the pupils, many of whom do not have access to green space within their own homes.

The school was eighth in the list of nominated projects. The winner is decided by voting which can be done online through the One Family Foundation’s website.

The deadline for voting closed earlier this week and the announcement will be made on July 27.
