Wandsworth Council has been criticised after a resident spotted a contractor washing children's chalk from the pavements during the heatwave at the beginning of the week.
Jason Hazeley tweeted a picture of one of the council's contractors washing the pavement this week after some children had taken their decorating to the streets.
I say, @wandbc — fancy spending our money on something much better than washing kids' chalk drawings off pavements? pic.twitter.com/jFUTWWQIPc

He said: "Fancy spending our money on something much better than washing kids' chalk drawings off pavements?"
A spokesman for Wandsworth Council said: "Our contractor was responding to a complaint we’d received from a member of the public.
"If residents make complaints to us then it would be wrong for us to ignore them."
