Two Black Lives Matter protesters from Wandsworth were arrested after chaining themselves together at London City Airport, yesterday, Tuesday September 6.
Nine protesters took part in a sit-in on the airport's only runway, leading to severe disruptions.
Natalie Fiennes, 25 and Ben Tippet, 24, both from Thurleigh Road, Battersea, were charged with aggravated trespass and being unlawfully airside within a restricted area of a plane, Metropolitan Police said.
Police were called to London City airport at 5.40am yesterday after protesters made their way onto the runway and locked themselves together.
It took four hours to remove the individuals and reopen the runway.
Flights were delayed or cancelled, while flights which were due to arrive at London City from Dublin, Rotterdam, Luxembourg, New York and Frankfurt were reported to have been diverted to other London airports.
Black Lives Matter activists claimed they held the protest to "highlight the UK's environmental impact on the lives of black people locally and globally."
