A community choir from Battersea is set to have its debut performance on the big stage.

The Battersea Power Station Community Choir will perform publicly for the first time at the Royal Festival Hall in London on the opening evening of the Southbank Centre’s Winter Festival programme on December 2.

The choir was set up in May 2016 with 40 members made up of Battersea Power Station staff and nearby residents.

They will be performing songs they have been practicing since May, including ‘At the End of the Day’ from Les Miserables and Petula Clark’s ‘Downtown’.

Sam Evans, choir leader, said: “We’ve had a brilliant time rehearsing over the last few months and the choir has really bonded as people have got to know each other.

“It is going to be really exciting to do our first proper performance and hopefully we will get people smiling with our repertoire.”

Anna Kalacinska, Battersea resident and choir member, said: “We are all so excited to be performing at the Royal Festival Hall. The choir has been a brilliant addition to the local community around Battersea Power Station and choir rehearsals are a highlight of everybody’s week.

“Hopefully other local people will see us performing and want to come and join us.”
