A careless driver who killed a pizza deliveryman has been sentenced to a 12-month community order.

Ivy Rowe, 22, drove her car into Lee Dennis’s motorcycle in Clapham Common North Side at the junction with Victoria Station at about 9.01pm on March 27, 2015.

The 18-year-old Tooting delivery man, who used his motorcycle for his job, was rushed to hospital with significant injuries but died two days later.

Rowe, of Doddington Grove, Kennington, stopped in Clapham Common North Side and was arrested and charged.

She was found guilty of causing death by careless driving at Inner London Crown Court on Friday, November 4.

Rowe was subsequently given a 12-month-community order, was disqualified from driving for, told to take an extended retest after period and also was told to undertake 200 hours of unpaid work.

Detective Constable Liam Kerrigan, of the Met Police’s roads and transport policing command, said: "Statistics show that motorcyclists are disproportionately more likely to be involved in road traffic collisions than other road users.

"In this case Rowe claimed she simply did not see Lee and his motorcycle. However, her actions were proven to be careless and resulted in the death of a young man.

"I would urge all road users to be aware of their surroundings as use London's roads. If you are driving a car, take your time when carrying out manoeuvres and always think about the presence of vulnerable road users, specifically cyclists and motorcyclists."
