The fate of a party at Hurlingham Yacht Club will be decided this evening by the Licencing Sub-Committee at Wandsworth Town Hall.

Darren Jones, house steward of Hurlingham Yacht Club, has applied for a Temporary Event Notice which would allow for entertainment, late night refreshment and the sale of alcohol from 7pm to 1am on the night of Saturday, 14 January.

However, the Environmental Services (NOISE) has sent an objection notice on the grounds of noise disturbance, specifically from the proposed entertainment.

The objection stated that the premises has attracted noise complaints in the past as it is located within a mixed residential area close to the river.

Wandsworth Times:

Peter Britten, an ex-commodore at the club, has said that there has only ever been one recorded noise complaint.

The club, which has been around for 90 years, is a charity that supplies free services to many organisations including the Putney Drivers Club and the Maritime Voluntary Service.

Mr Britten said: “The only way we fund ourselves is through social events and the local residents have come out in full support of us.

“Only one neighbour has made a complaint.”

The premises, a sailing club located on Deodar Road, Putney, currently allows for the supply of alcohol and live or recorded music between 10am and 11pm on Saturday.

The meeting will take place this evening (Thursday, 5 January) at 7pm in Wandsworth Town Hall, room 122.

It will be attended by Councillors Andy Gibbons, Ian Lewer and Leslie McDonnell.
