A Licencing Sub-Committee has granted a Temporary Event Notice for a party to a sailing club in Putney.

Darren Jones, house steward of Hurlingham Yacht club, had applied to the council to extend licencing hours for music and alcohol at a social event on Saturday January 14.

However, an Environmental Services officer sent in an objection on the grounds of noise pollution, which was discussed in the committee meeting on January 5.

The objection stated that the premises had attracted noise complaints in the past as it is located within a mixed residential area close to the river.

Ex-commodore of the club Peter Britten said they were “obviously pleased” with the result but that there had been a lot of unnecessary trouble getting the TEN and that the noise complaints came from one party.

He said: “It is something we should have naturally been entitled to.

“It’s just taken so long and it is one resident spoiling hundreds of people’s enjoyment.”

The club, which has been around for 90 years, is a charity that supplies free services to many organisations including the Putney Drivers Club and the Maritime Voluntary Service.

Social events are one of the only ways the charity generates funds.

The premises, located on Deodar Road, currently allows for the supply of alcohol and live or recorded music between 10am and 11pm on Saturday and the TEN will extend those hours to 1am.
