A police chase allegedly speeding through Tooting at ‘100mps’ resulted in a multi-car crash.

The chase began after a Ford Focus failed to stop for a marked police car in Streatham.

During the pursuit, the Ford crashed into a Toyota Prius and a number of parked vehicles in Moyser Road near the junction with Gracedale Road.

A local resident, who only gave his first name Tim, heard sirens on Saturday afternoon (January 14) from his house in Topsham Road and was concerned about the speed of the chase.

He said: "It was crazy.

"If any child stepped out on the street they would be dead."

He noted that conditions were wet on Saturday and added: "It’s ok if there’s something major going on, like if they were chasing a terrorist, but was there a need to travel at that speed?"

The driver of the Ford, a 23-year-old man, was apprehended after the crash.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "Officers found what is believed to be a quantity of cannabis in the Focus and the he driver, a 23-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs.

"He was taken to hospital where he remains at this time. Officers await an update on his condition."

The driver of the Prius was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

There are no reports of other injured parties.

The Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) has been informed as is routine following a pursuit collision.
