A local charity in Wandsworth had a special guest on Wednesday when Tooting MP Rosena Allin-Khan dropped by to show her support.

Dr Allin-Khan visited Little Village, a charity who provide quality, used, baby clothes and equipment to families who need a helping hand, to see first-hand the work they do.

During her visit to Little Village’s donation centre, Rosena Allin-Khan spoke about the important work the charity does providing parents with essentials such as clothes, cots and buggies.

She said: "It is a powerful example of how a simple yet vital idea, combined with a dedicated group of people, can make a tangible difference in people's lives.

"I hope you will help the charity grow if you can, as there are many parents who could really use just a little bit of help.

"So if your baby girl has grown out of her cot or your baby boy is now too big for his sleeping bag - please do contribute them to Little Village who will pass them on to grateful new homes."

Charity founder and local mum, Sophia Parker, set up Little Village last year and said she has been "overwhelmed" by the support from the local community.

She said: "As our work becomes better known we are receiving more and more referrals to help families who are struggling.

"Put simply, we just don’t have enough donations to keep up with demand.

"In the last month alone we received 15 referrals for newborns.

"We desperately need cots, moses baskets, newborn buggies, sterilisers, towels and sleeping bags.

"So if you are having a new year clear out please think of us for any good-quality items that you no longer need.  You could really make the difference for someone in need."

Little Village runs a weekly donation session on Wednesday mornings from their Balham headquarters in St Mark’s Community Hub, 53 Rowfant Road.

The charity also holds sessions on the first Monday of every month from 7.45pm to 9.45pm.
