A pop up shop has opened in Wandsworth to allow residents assess their health for free.

The Get to Know your Health shop, open from January 23 to February 9, will have specialist nurses on hand to give free health check-ups and advice, including blood pressure and blood sugar checks and BMI measuring.

The shop is located in Southside Shopping Centre. No appointment is necessary and all check-ups are fast, confidential and completely free.

Information and advice on sexual health and on the signs and symptoms of diabetes and cancer will also be available.

The council’s health spokesman Councillor Jim Maddan, who officially opened the shop on Monday, said he found it to be an "excellent" way of encouraging people to get a check-up as shoppers can pop in so easily.

He said: "This year’s shop builds upon the success of the Get to Know Cancer pop-up shop we have run for the past three years.

"This year we want to extend the shop to all health issues.

"Thanks to the generous donation of a unit from Southside, we can be in the heart of Wandsworth’s busy shopping centre and I would urge everyone to pop in, get checked out, have a chat with our friendly nurses and find out about the free support on offer in the borough."

Opening times are 9am to 7.30pm Monday to Friday, 9am-5.30pm on Saturdays and 11am to 4.30pm on Sundays.
