A student from St Mary’s CE Primary school has won first prize in a competition to create the best anti-pollution poster.

Libbie Turnball won £100 for her school to spend on new air quality improvement projects.

The runner up, Kevwe Di Giuseppe Ayigbe from Penwortham Primary School, also received a special certificate.

The competition was part of the council’s air quality improvement programme which aims to increase awareness in children about air pollution.

Environment spokesperson Cllr Jonathan Cook, who visited both schools to congratulate the pupils, said: "Congratulations to Libbie and Kevwe on their posters, and to all the pupils who took part in this programme with such enthusiasm.

"Raising awareness and empowering people to make positive changes is a key part of the council’s work on air pollution, among a range of other measures such as installing more electric car charging points, lobbying  for a ban on diesel buses in congested corridors, and investing in the borough’s cycle network.

"We are proud to have been awarded Cleaner Borough Status by the Mayor for our work on Air Quality in November of last year, and are committed to continuing to improve air quality in Wandsworth."
