Nearly 1,000 young people from across Richmond and Kingston schools and colleges prepared themselves for the world of work at a careers fair yesterday.

This is the third year the World of Work event– organised by the body which co-ordinates children’s services, Achieving for Children – has been held.

This year's roadshow, for those aged between 15 and 24, took place at the Harlequins’ Twickenham Stoop Stadium on Wednesday, March 8.

The first hour was targeted at young people with special educational needs or disabilities.

Students were given the opportunity to meet 70 exhibitors including IBM, Chessington World of Adventures, Haymarket Media Group, WHSmiths, the Ambulance Service, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Metro Bank.

Richmond Council’s cabinet member for children’s services and schools, Councillor Paul Hodgins, said: “The World of Work roadshow was a great opportunity for young people to try out their skills, watch interactive demonstrations, and receive impartial careers advice and guidance.

“A variety of companies, organisations, local colleges, universities and training providers were there to give useful hints and tips on the world of work, its many opportunities, and the various routes into it.”
