Firefighters have tackled a blaze at a property in North Cheam.

About 20 firefighters were called to reports of a fire in a loft conversion in Chatsworth Road, near Cheam High School, at 4.54pm on Saturday, March 11.

Four fire engines, from Sutton, New Malden and Mitcham, attended shortly and brought the blaze under control at 5.30pm.

No one was reported as being injured.

Crew members then gave fire safety advice to residents who live close to the property.

A Chatsworth Road resident said: “When I came home there were a couple of fire engines outside their (the family’s) house. I think it was in the attic and I heard the people got out ok.

“I didn’t see more than that other than firefighters going in and out of the house. I don’t think it was a particularly big fire.”

An investigation into the cause of the blaze has been launched.
