A decapitated kitten believed to be the work of the M25 Cat Killer was found in Tooting on Mother’s Day.

Brenda Towner, 53, was walking down Gassiot Road in Tooting with her daughter and three-year-old granddaughter on March 26 when she came across the "horrible" sight.

She said: "My Mother’s Day was ruined after seeing the kitten with its head off.

"I can’t get it out of my head."

Brenda thought it was a pigeon at first because the kitten, which was grey with a white tip, was so tiny.

She said: "I’m an animal lover- people are sick. That poor little thing didn’t even have a life.

"Imagine the owners saw that on the street."

After a few phone calls, Brenda managed to speak to South Norwood Animal Rescue Liberty (SNARL) who have been dealing with hundreds of cases of cats in England being dismembered.

They believe the attacks to be the work of one person, who has been dubbed the M25 Cat killer.

The animal charity removed the kitten from the road, which they estimate to have been 12 to 24-weeks-old at the time of its death. It was not microchipped so the owner of the kitten has not been located yet.

A spokesperson for SNARL said: "It was found on the pavement with its head removed and missing.

"The injuries are very similar so we believe it to be the work of the M25 killer."

It is thought the killing happened somewhere else as there was no blood at the scene.

Brenda added: "Now it’s come closer to home people should know. I know lots of people with cats.

"I just hope my granddaughter doesn’t remember it and have nightmares."
