A further six people have been charged in connection with the brutal gang attack that left a teenage asylum seeker with a fractured spine and a bleed on the brain.

As of Tuesday, April 4, 16 people have been arrested in relation to the assault near the Goat pub in Shirley at about 11.40pm on Friday, March 31.

Kurdish Iranian Reker Ahmed, 17, was waiting for two friends at a bus stop in Shrublands Avenue when he was brutally attacked by a gang of up to 30 people.

Reker was left with a fractured spine, a fractured eye socket and a bleed on the brain. He is said to be in a stable, but serious condition and is recovering at a south London hospital.

The six, including a 15-year-old boy, were all charged with violent disorder.

Two others, a 17-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man, were also charged with racially aggravated grievous bodily harm.

All six will appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court today (Tuesday, April 4).

• Liam Neylen, 19, of Ferris Avenue, is charged with violent disorder

• Ben Harman, 20, of Akabosi Close, was charged with violent disorder, racially aggravated grievous bodily harm and dangerous driving

• A 15-year-old boy from the Croydon area was charged with violent disorder

• A 17-year-old boy from the Croydon area was charged with violent disorder and racially aggravated grievous bodily harm

• Ellie Leite, 19, of Shrublands Avenue, was charged with violent disorder

• James Neves, 22, no fixed address, was charged with violent disorder

Five other people, including a brother and sister, were charged with violent disorder and appeared at the same court on Monday, April 3.

All were bailed to appear at Croydon Crown Court on Monday, May 1.

Two men were arrested as part of the investigation, but were released with no further action being taken.
