Tributes have been paid to a Sutton pupil who was found dead near the Warren Recreation Ground.

Warm messages were left at a floral tribute in Upland Road as well as online for Edvinas Jankeviciu, who was described as having a ‘beautiful smile’.

The Overton Grange School pupil disappeared from his home in Sutton and was last seen in Albion Road on Saturday, April 29.

Pupils from the school joined searches to find the missing 15-year-old, but they were unable to locate him.

His body was found in a secluded woodland area in Upland Road four days later.

The author of an anonymously written letter, left among the floral tribute in near where Edvinas died, said the teenager’s death had ‘broken their heart’.

It read: “All I keep seeing is your beautiful smile as we passed each other in the corridors.

“I just want you to know that you have changed my life in so many ways and you have made me realise how precious life is. All I wanted to do was give you the biggest hug and tell you that you were not the only one that feels that way.

“I wanted to do my best for you and be there for you when you were feeling down, but the angels had already given you your wings.”

Lisa Soames also paid tribute and commented: “It’s a sad loss of such a young, handsome boy with his whole life ahead of him. It breaks my heart.”

A spokeswoman for Overton Grange said: “The Headteachers and Governors would like to thank the whole community for the support they have given all students and staff and staff at this very sad time.”

A crowdfunding page, to raise money for Edvinas’s funeral, was set up shortly after the teenager’s body was found. Almost £13,000 has been donated toward burial costs as of Wednesday, May 10.

Garry Lockwood, who founded the page, praised those who had given money and left heartfelt messages of support.

He said: “When people come together for a common cause it can be really powerful. We cannot undo what has happened but together we can try and make a small difference to the outcome.

“People’s kindness and support sends a wonderful message to the family of Edvinas in their hour of need. I am completely overwhelmed by your support and kind words.”
