Blue may be the colour for the Premier League winners but motorists in Wandsworth could be seeing red later this month.

Drivers and bus passengers are being forewarned that a Chelsea victory parade north of the river could have a knock-on effect for traffic in Wandsworth, Putney and Battersea.

The club sealed their fifth Premier League title on Saturday and put further gloss on with a 4-3 win over Watford yesterday and now plans have been announced for an open-top bus celebration on Sunday, May 28.

Thousands of fans are expected to line the route of the parade which will start at noon and last for around an hour as the bus winds its way around Fulham.

The plans are for the parade to start at Stamford Bridge’s west entrance before travelling along Fulham Road, into Hortensia Road, King’s Road and New King’s Road.

The bus will stop at Eel Brook Common, where the procession will end.

Wandsworth Council said that for safety reasons, some roads in Fulham would need to be closed and access restricted on others from 7.30am until the fans have dispersed, expected to be around 5.30pm.

This will mean traffic heading north over both Putney and Wandsworth bridges is likely to face significant delays from 11am until mid-afternoon, with spillover effects possible on the approaches to Battersea and Albert bridges too.

The council advises motorists to avoid the area or plan extra time for their journey.
