An elderly man from Mitcham has died after being hit by a car in Tooting.

David Pugh, 77, was hit on May 4 at 11.30am in Garrett Lane and the London Ambulance Service took him to a south London hospital.

Mr Pugh died on May 10 and next of kin are aware.

Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit were made aware on May 15 and have stepped up their investigations.

The unit have issued a renewed appeal for witnesses who saw the incident.

The driver of the car - a Volkswagen Touran - stopped at the scene. They have not been arrested.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for any witnesses who were in the area of Tooting High Street and the junction with Garrett Lane when the collision occurred.
