Have you ever wondered what would happen if children were allowed to run schools? One five-year-old got the chance of a lifetime at a Putney primary, taking on the role of headmistress for a day.
Jemima Appleton arrived at Falcons School for Girls dressed for business in a smart outfit complete with pearl earrings. She helped the real headmistress, Sophia Ashworth Jones, throughout the day with her daily duties
These included a special assembly about Judaism, during which she stood at the front and had the job of handing out certificates to her classmates.
Her classmates came dressed in “careers” clothes, such as teachers, mathematicians, vets and even a forensic scientist.
Jemima was awarded the job after her parents gave a “hugely generous donation” bidding on the raffle prize at a recent Parent Quiz evening.
The money raised will go to the school’s chosen Charity School in Cambodia, Hang Svart.
Mrs Ashworth Jones said: “Jemima loved her day and hopefully it will continue her desire to become a Headmistress in the future, accompanied by all of our aspiring girls whom came dressed for some impressive careers.”
