A public consultation has been launched allowing Wandsworth residents to voice their priorities when it comes to reducing local crime.

The aim of the consultation is to help local authorities such as the council, police, NHS and probation service, understand and focus on residents’ top crime concerns in the borough.

The move follows "tragic" and "senseless" events in the borough involving knife crime when young people have lost their lives or been seriously injured.

In the last 12 months vehicle related crime has soared by 600 per cent, prompting the creation of a moped-enabled crime hub, among other things.

While violent crime has fallen by four per cent in Wandsworth, there has been a spate of knife attacks. Three people have been fatally stabbed in the borough in 2017, the same as in all of 2016.

Community safety spokesman Councillor Jonathan Cook said the "obviously senseless and dreadful crimes" have left the community shocked and distressed.

He said: "It is hugely important that everyone in our community comes together to stand united against those who commit such heinous crimes."

However, Cllr Cook said "what’s really important" is hearing the views of local people.

He added: "We need to listen to their concerns and their experiences so we can draw up an effective series of proposals that address these priorities."

The consultation closes on July 10, 2017.
