There have been numerous minor crashes as a result of an oil spillage in Cavendish Road.
Police were called to the incident at 11.03am.
A spokesperson for the Met Police said: "There have been a lot of minor traffic collisions as a result of the oil spillage."
Cavendish road is closed while emergency services deal with the oil, which is causing delays between Clapham Common South Side and Poynders Road.
Road users are advised to avoid the area and use other routes.
Bus routes 55 and 355 are being diverted southbound.
