Pick-axe-wielding burglars shattered a window of a jeweller’s store and stole luxury watches last night.

Three suspects stole an unspecified number of Tag Heuer watches from Ernest Jones in the Ashley Centre in Epsom, having kicked at display cases and rained down blows with the pick-axe, Surrey Police believe.

They were then seen leaving the shopping centre towards Ashley Avenue after the burglary at 11.20pm last night (Tuesday, June 20), the force stated.

Police officers did not see the suspects personally despite several units being sent to the shopping centre. It is unknown if the offenders had access to a vehicle.

The force has this morning released descriptions of the three suspects – all of whom are described as being of slim build, white males in their late-teens to early-twenties.

The first suspect was wearing a navy sweatshirt with a grey hood, navy tracksuit bottoms with a thick white stripe, and white trainers. He was wearing gloves and a balaclava.

The second suspect was wearing a grey hooded top, navy tracksuit bottoms with a white stripe and sea blue or turquoise trainers. He was wearing bright orange gloves and a balaclava, and was carrying a large Sports Direct bag.

The third suspect was wearing all dark clothing – a black or navy hooded top, tracksuit bottoms, black gloves and dark coloured trainers. He was holding a black and grey holdall.

Forensic and CCTV enquiries are ongoing at this time and the investigation is still in it early stages, Surrey Police stated.

There is nothing to suggest the burglary is linked with a similar raid in Banstead High Street on Friday afternoon, a spokeswoman added.
